Augustus Saint-Gaudens: America's Master Sculptor
While in New Hampshire we visited Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park . Many people may not be familiar with Augustus Saint-Gaudens , but he was a prominent sculptor during the Gilded Age (late 1800s) and arguably the most renowned American sculptor of all time.
His bronze statuary work is displayed publicly throughout the country - New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Boston, Pittsburgh, and many other cities. While he is well known for statuary, he was also very talented at bas relief . Using his skills with this art medium, he worked with Theodore Roosevelt to redesign American coinage. Some of his designed coins sell at auction today for several million dollars!
