Continuing our journey at Whitefish Point
Continuing on our journey at Whitefish Point, another building at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum was fully dedicated to the US Life Saving Service . Did you know that the US LSS was the precursor to the US Coast Guard?
There was an apt quote on one of the boards in this exhibit, “Regulations say, you have to go out, but say nothing about you coming back”. These brave men not only helped passengers and crew in ships which were wrecked and stalled but they helped collect and identify dead bodies that washed up on shore. They used every method available to them to identify the individuals they found.
Thank you to all of our current and past Coast Guard. We appreciate you and the work you do to keep our country safe!
