The World's Largest Rose Tree
During our day in Tombstone, we kept seeing signs for “The World’s Largest Rose Tree ”. I (Kate) have a strong love for the natural world, so this type of thing is right up my alley. The entry into the rose tree in was only $5, and there was a small museum about the history of both Tombstone and the Rose Tree Inn.
But the star of the show is definitely the Lady Banks’ Rose, which is held up by an extra large trellis about 6’ off the ground. The tree’s trunk is probably 12-15’ in diameter and the canopy provides a vast shade canopy spanning almost 9,000 square feet. It is very lightly fragranced and we were really fortunate to see it at the beginning of its blooming season. It is absolutely incredible that this beauty is growing in the middle of this desert town.
