Exploring South Padre Island & Isla Blanca Park
We spent a (very windy) morning going over to South Padre Island. At the south end of the island is Isla Blanca county park that has a bronze statue of Jesus and a message inscribed asking God to
“RECEIVE THE SOULS OF THESE BRAVE FISHERMEN WHO SAILED THROUGH THIS PASS AND NEVER RETURNED”
Isla Blanca covers the whole southern tip of South Padre Island. It features pavilions, boat ramps, fishing jetties and a 600 site full hookup RV campground!! And if watching SpaceX experimental launches is your thing, I’m not sure you can get any closer to the action than this park!
While exploring the park we also got to see some shrimp boats in the water and the weather blimp in its docking station, walked on the beach and stared at the crazy folks climbing on the jetties on this very windy day.
If we ever go back to south Texas in the winter, we’d much rather stay on South Padre Island than in Brownsville. Seems like there is a lot more to do on #SPI.
