Harvest Host Stop at Grissom Air Museum
We use a program called Harvest Hosts for some of our overnights in between destinations. Harvest Hosting is free to stay, but there is a recommended minimum spend at the place you’re staying (currently $30).
The Grissom Air Museum is part of this program and allows RVers like us to stay for free in their parking lot. The museum entry only costs $9 per person, and it is SO WORTH IT! The museum is set up to provide patrons with an understanding of Cold War Era aircraft. They have an extensive collection of aircraft on site and placards telling you about each one. But, to me, the coolest part was getting to sit in the F-4 Phantom cockpit they have inside. It’s so tall you have to climb a huge ladder to get down into it.
My second favorite part was climbing the radio tower to see all the airplanes across their field (if you look closely, you might see our RV!). The radio tower is actually transportable too, and has on how to transform it into a pod for transport.
If you’re ever in central Indiana (north of Indianapolis), we HIGHLY recommend stopping here for a couple hours or as an overnight stop! We’ve stayed here more than once already ourselves!
