You all know how much I (Kate) love all the public art in cities we travel to. Over the past (almost) three years of full time RV travel, we have seen a LOT of murals . This one in Roswell, NM really struck me. Not only are the colors eye-catching, it shows a lot about the town, the history of the area, and even the state in just in one long wall. New Mexico in general is known for its space history.
New Mexico’s space history is long - it’s not just about the Roswell incident, but there are several observatories, the Very Large Array , and a terrain suitable for astronaut training and rover testing. Look through the details and see all the different references to the tribes that lived here long ago, the state’s flag, visits by extraterrestrials and even the space ship shaped McDonalds. So many cool things going on in this mural!
The artist is @benjaminswatez who has painted murals all over the world - Rwanda, Congo, Ontario Canada, Asheville North Carolina, and Jacksonville Florida to name a few. From photos, they are all equally eye-catching and give you a sense of peace. Such talent!
