Kitch-iti-kipi (The Big Spring)
Kitch-iti-kipi (The Big Spring) is near Manistique, MI on the southern side of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Coming in at Michigan’s largest spring, it is over 40 feet deep and 200 feet across and the water is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom.
There is a hand-operated raft that takes visitors across the spring. The raft has a glass bottom to allow a clear view of the spring. Water flows through the spring at over 10,000 gallons per minute and you can see it bubbling up from the limestone bottom. But you definitely don’t want to try to swim in these waters - the spring is a constant 45 degrees year-round.
