Our First Time at Niagara Falls
Did you know that “Niagara Falls ” refers to the city in New York where three HUGE waterfalls are located along the Niagara River? The Niagara River is the boundary line between Canada and the United States between 2 of the 5 Great Lakes - Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
Because Lake Erie is 325 feet higher in elevation than Lake Ontario, the Falls help bring the two closer in elevation, dropping almost 1/2 of that distance! The three falls are the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls. We visited during both daytime and nighttime.
Our nighttime excursion was seeing them up close and personal from a Niagara City Cruises boat (from the Canadian side). While seeing them lit up at night and watching fireworks over Canada was really neat, I (Kate) prefer seeing the falls in the daytime. Absolutely incredible views from both the Canadian and the US side, too.
