Peregrine Falcon of Big Bend
While reading up on Big Bend, we found out that from February through May each year, parts of the park are closed to protect the nesting Peregrine falcons . These incredible birds were listed as an endangered species until 1999 and are still considered a threatened species in Texas.
Did you know that the peregrine falcon, only just bigger than a crow, is considered the world’s fastest animal? While diving, it can reach speeds up to 200mph!
We were fascinated by this one circling above our heads, unsure if it was protecting its nest or hunting prey.
