Visiting Big Bend Ranch State Park
Went for a drive through the Big Bend Ranch State Park
. It has some AMAZING land forms.
During our drive we happened upon a sign for the Contrabando Movie Set Site
, so went to check it out.
The buildings here were constructed 40 years ago (1985) to be used as a set for the movie “Uphill all the Way”. Some of the set is still left after all these years, but other buildings from it have been removed due to significant damage from flooding of the Rio Grande.
The set is a mere 40 feet or so from the water currently, and ~15 feet below the road. It is easy to imagine the toll that high water would take on the area.
