Visiting the Plimoth Patuxet Museum
While visiting Plymouth, we spent an afternoon visiting the Plimoth Patuxet Museum . This museum is where history comes to life! It boasts two very special spots - one is a Wampanoag homesite and the other is a recreation of a village with crops and animals similar to how the Pilgrims would have lived in the years after Mayflower landing in 1620.
The day we visited, the native homesite had 2 people, one male and one female, dressed in traditional native clothing and teaching visitors about a typical day in the life of a Patuxet native. They were also working on burning out the hull of a tree to make a canoe. That was super interesting to learn about.
In the village, there were several persons portrayed by actors and they answered our questions and provided us with a hands on and interactive experience we won’t soon forget. I love living history museums - you actually get to interact and learn at the same time. We were taught about daily activities, local trade with the natives, making much of the items they used (brooms, cabins), and surviving winter.
