We are celebrating Armed Forces Day today
How to celebrate - Thank the military members in your life or ones that you meet! After all, FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.
The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated on Saturday, May 20, 1950 after being created by President Harry S. Truman the summer prior. The idea was to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank military members for their patriotic service in support of the republic and national interests and recognize the services as an undeniable fact of American life. It is typically celebrated on the 3rd Saturday in May towards the end of Armed forces week - second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May.
