Visiting Florida Caverns State Park
We made it to Florida Caverns State Park last week. Super neat place to explore. We took the cavern tour, walked the Beech Magnolia Trail, and went to Blue Hole Spring.
In the cavern tour there is one column that they allow people to touch, which is kind of neat. You can absolutely see the buildup of the oils from people’s hands and how it is absorbed by the stone, causing it to stop collecting more minerals from the flowing water (which is how they grow).
The Beech Magnolia trail smelled amazingly good almost the whole time we were on it. I think it smelled like magnolia, honey suckle, and gardenia.
Blue Hole Spring (not to be confused with the one in Ichetucknee state park) is a bit chilly to go swimming in, but there were definitely people out there swimming! It stays a cool 67° year round! The grasses growing in the spring were just beautiful, and some even moved with the flow of the water.
There is a campground at this park which seems to be nicely appointed; however, we do not consider it big rig friendly due to the tree overhangs being very low and a very narrow one way road. Small drivables (class b and c) and short towables should be fine though. Maybe one day we’ll visit again with a different RV.
